Maria Tarrence, ASA, ARM, ISA AM is the founder of Capital Art Group LLC and an accredited Senior Appraiser with expertise in Modern, Post-War, Contemporary, and Ultra-Contemporary Fine art. She is one of few specialists to hold designations with two of the three recognized appraisal organizations (American Society of Appraisers, International Society of Appraisers) and is in the process of acquiring her designation with the third (Appraisers Association of America). Mrs. Tarrence is also accredited with the Appraisal Review and Management designation (ARM) with the American Society of Appraisers.

Maria Tarrence offers fine art appraisal services for insurance scheduling, damage and loss claims, estate planning and taxes, charitable contributions, equitable distribution, dissolution of marriage, financial planning, and more. She has particular expertise in the valuation of blue-chip paintings and damaged artworks.

Mrs. Tarrence offers appraisal review reports with and without opinions of value and a full range of Expert Witness services.

Maria’s professional background includes advanced education in art history, professional experience working in the auction, advisory, and appraisal side of the art business, and extensive appraisal training. This enables her to address appraisal and appraisal review assignments of varying complexity in an educated, professional, impartial, and objective manner.

Mrs. Tarrence works with private and corporate clients, estates, attorneys, insurance companies, and has appraised collections of various sizes with works of art ranging from modest to blue-chip. She is compliant with USPAP.

Maria is fluent in several European languages, including Bulgarian, Russian, and Italian, and conversant in French. She served as Treasurer of the New York Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers from 2019 to 2022 and as President of the same from 2022 - 2024.
