Maria Tarrence is a highly qualified fine art and decorative arts appraiser and the founder of Capital Art Group LLC, a New York City-based firm specializing in appraisal, appraisal review, and litigation support services. Leveraging a nationwide network of trusted professional appraisers, Capital Art Group provides expertise across a wide range of collectible categories, including fine art, gems and jewelry, decorative arts, fashion, and serve clients throughout the United States.
Appraisal reports are prepared for a variety of intended uses, including estate planning, estate tax, gift tax, insurance coverage, damage or loss claims, charitable contributions, third party claims, divorce matters, loan collaterals, purchase or sale considerations, and more.
Appraisal review reports can be prepared with or without an opinion of value and may address an entire appraisal report, a specific section, or another appraisal review. Appraisal review reports are often used in litigation support, damage or loss claims, insurance/legal/business disputes.
All appraisal and appraisal review reports are written in compliance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), which is the standard of care for the appraisal profession promulgated by the Appraisal Standards Board of The Appraisal Foundation.
Maria Tarrence is Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) with the American Society of Appraisers, holding a second designation in Appraisal Review & Management (ARM). Additionally, she is an Accredited Member (ISA AM) of the International Society of Appraisers and a Candidate with the Appraisers Association of America.
Maria has served in leadership roles with the New York City Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers, including as a two-term President (2022–2024) and three-term Treasurer (2019–2022), demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing the appraisal profession.
Maria founded Capital Art Group LLC in 2022 following a distinguished career in the fine art appraisal, advisory, and auction industries, combined with several years of teaching university-level art history. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design & Visual Arts and a Master of Arts in Art History & Criticism. She is multilingual, fluent in English, Bulgarian, and Russian, near fluent in Italian, and has working knowledge of French.
