Mr. Frantzen has more than 35 years of experience specializing in the valuation of businesses and business interests including equity interests; liabilities and debt securities; fairness and solvency opinions; options and other derivatives; and intangible assets. He has provided opinions of value, fairness and solvency for many purposes such as acquisitions; divestitures; business and strategic plan reviews; business unit performance measurement; SEC filings; US GAAP and other financial reporting requirements; US federal, state, and non-US tax reporting requirements; regulatory compliance, various dispute resolution procedures and general advisory purposes. He has worked with clients across a wide variety of industries. Mr. Frantzen has served as an expert on business and asset valuation issues in a variety of litigation and disputes and has provided testimony in U.S. District Courts, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, international arbitration forums and various state and local court jurisdictions.
Mr. Frantzen earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from DePaul University’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business in Chicago. He is a CFA Charterholder (Chartered Financial Analyst) and an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA), American Society of Appraisers. He is currently a member of the CFA Institute, the CFA Society of Chicago and the American Society of Appraisers. He has served on the Business Valuation Committee of the ASA and is currently serving on the Board of Examiners. He was honored as the Examiner of the Year in 2022 for his work with the Board of Examiners.
Additional accomplishments include passing the Series 7 and 63 securities exams, earning a Certification of Completion, ASA-Advanced Multidisciplinary Healthcare Valuation Education Program and earning his license as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois. Mr. Frantzen has served as a panelist, lead content provider and instructor, and presenter on a variety of valuation and corporate finance topics for a wide variety of professional organizations, law firms, trade associations, societies and conferences.
Prior to founding Frantzen Valuation Specialists LLC, his independent valuation consulting practice, in 2019, Mr. Frantzen most recently managed the Chicago Office of Alvarez & Marsal Valuation Services LLC and served as the leader of the national Financial Reporting Valuation and Healthcare Industry Valuation service lines. Prior to Alvarez & Marsal, he managed the Chicago Office of American Appraisal Associates, Inc. and served in various leadership positions including leading the Finncial Valuation practice in Chicago and the Central Region, Chairing the National Healthcare Industry practice and serving as a member of the Chairman's Advisory Board. Earlier in his career, he was a Partner at Arthur Andersen where he was the co-leader of the Strategic Valuation Services Group in Chicago, led the financial valuation practice for Andersen’s Central Region and served on the firm-wide training committee for the Economic and Financial Consulting Division. He also had brief periods of employment as a Director or Managing Director at Standard & Poor’s Corporate Value Consulting, Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin and Coopers & Lybrand LLP where he served in many leadership positions including serving on the fairness and solvency committee and chairing the technical standards committee, among others.
